Chart of the Day: Age to Retire of 61

Age expected to retire in blue, age retired in black

Contents

Today’s Chart of the Day from a Gallup Survey shows that the retirement age of 61 has not materially changed over the last 20 years. It also shows that many expect to retire at age 66, five years later than they actually do. Though there are theories why many retire earlier than planned, no one reason is significant, and it is good to be prepared for such an event.
