Today’s Chart of the Day comes Trust & Will's 2026 Estate Planning Report: Key Findings and Trends and breaks down estate planning participation across generations, revealing some surprising results.
Gen X (typically in their peak earning years) has the highest share of adults without any estate planning documents, at 62%. Meanwhile, Gen Z leads all generations in trust ownership, with 21% reporting they have established one.
Estate planning is far from universal, regardless of age. Having the right plan in place can help protect assets, simplify wealth transfer, and ensure personal wishes are carried out. While every situation is different, the data serves as a reminder that estate planning is less about age and more about being prepared for the future.
