Line graph illustrating attitudinal changes regarding alcohol consumption from 2000 to present.

Contents

Today’s Chart of the Day is from the San Francisco Chronicle with a Gallup poll showing that since 2000, attitudes about alcohol consumption have changed significantly.

The percentage of people who think that drinking is "good for your health" went from 22% to a new low of 6%. Conversely, people who think "drinking is bad" went from 27% to 53%.

The article goes on to say that people are taking to heart the research that shows alcohol is, in fact, bad for your health. As a result of this change in thinking, wine and beer consumption is now at 30-year and 60-year low respectively, and the steepest declines come from the younger Millennial and Gen Z demographics.
