Today’s Chart of the Day comes from Charlie Bilello with information from YCharts. Over the last 30 years, inflation reduced the value of a dollar by 50%.During that same time, even after four major downturns and subsequent recoveries, the S&P 500 had an after inflation gain of 840%. The past is no predictor of future returns, but the past shows the stock market was a successful hedge against inflation.
