Line graph showing number of houses sold per year per real estate agent from 1999 to present.

Today’s Chart of the Day is from Torsten Slok of Apollo Global Management's US Housing Outlook report, showing home sales per real estate agent since 1999. As noted in the chart's title, due to lower inventory, the average agent is selling fewer and fewer homes.

A notable statistic is that in recent years, nearly 50% of active real estate agents sold zero to only one home a year, and 70% of all agents have less than five sales a year. The article went on to suggest that the only path to higher sales may be through new housing developments.

The industry is certainly changing, as is evidenced by this report.
