Today’s Chart of the Day, from Wells Fargo in an article by Sherwood, is something to ponder the next time you’re at the mall - if you still go. The chart shows that in 2023, one out of eight, or 13%, of all items of clothing in the US is now purchased on Amazon.

According to Wells Fargo, this accounts for 41.4% of all apparel sold online and most of it being from the in-house brand, Amazon Essentials. The article goes on to say that basic clothing is the second highest category, just behind electronics, and ahead of shoes and books.

Shoppers aged 18 to 24 are leading the charge, spending nearly half their available income purchasing apparel online. Amazon wants the other half, too and is launching a new Amazon Luxury division.

The future of fashion might not be on a hanger - it might be in your cart.
