Today’s Chart of the Day is provided by my colleague and fellow Portfolio Manager Angie Parsons. The chart, prepared by YCharts, shows the “Bull Market” (when the market is up 20%) and “Bear Market” (when the market is down 20%) and highlights the duration of each. Not surprisingly, since the market is up over longer periods of time, there is more green than red. What is surprising is the magnitude. Even though 20% downturns seem severe while we are in them, usually in the long run, they are just bumps in the road. YCharts noted a great statement describing the chart saying, “Corrections are loud, recoveries are quiet.”
