Chart of the Day: Adults Over 60 Report the Most

Horizontal bar graph showing cyberattack complaints and losses reported by age group.

Contents

Today's Chart of the Day from USAFacts highlights cybercrime trends across different age groups.

The most prevalent types of cyberattacks include phishing, extortion, and personal data breaches.

Adults aged 60 and older reported the highest number of cybercrime complaints, along with the greatest financial losses. Older populations are particularly vulnerable, often due to limited familiarity with technology and greater financial resources.

To reduce risk, use strong passwords and MFA (multi-factor authentication); verify the identity of anyone you interact with online by calling the business back; avoid clicking on suspicious or unexpected links sent via email or text message; and never give out personal info (SSN, account numbers or PIN) if you didn't initiate the call.
